ATL, are they edging towards strike action?

The ATL have not gone on strike for thirty years but the recent suggestions about attacks on public service pensions may change all that. At the recent ATL conference (the EOA is an affiliated member to the ATL) in Liverpool, its delegates voted to approach the rest of the membership to seek support for strike action, should the government not review its position.

Many feel let down by the recent government’s announcement that to unpick an historic agreement between public sector workers and government. having accepted lower pay for a secure pension at the end of their working life, now it appears that historic agreement may be just about to be unpicked. As almost half the EOA membership are ATL members they may be drawn into this process. However, le the other half of the EOA with union membership are members of Unison who have been very proactive in the past over taking possible strike action. One hopes that issues will be resolved and there will be no need for any kind of action. However, if that strike action does come the main concern is to ensure that exams are not affected.
