Lynn Wiblinwv

Mrs Lynne Margaret Wiblin

Examinations Manager

Walton Girls’ High School

I have been in my current role for approximately 5 years and thoroughly enjoying the day to day challenges.

A brief background of who you are and your present role

  • Worked at Walton for over 13 years.
  • Began as receptionist / attendance officerProgressed to CMIS manager and found part of my role included making exam entries
  • Attended an NAA new exams officer course supported by the EOA and became enthused to take on the role fully
  • Was supported by Assistant Head (my line manager at the time) and took the role on fully 5 - 6 years ago

An outline of the experience you will bring to the post

  • Experienced exams manager in all qualifications used in our school at KS4 & KS5 and have a clear understanding of the diverse needs of students and examinations
  • I have just completed four years as a school governor which enables me to understand the challenges that the role of Trustee can bring yet I can also challenge and question practices as necessary.

What your vision is for taking the EOA forward

  • The EOA has a very important role to play and I believe it’s reputation can be built on and expanded to support and challenge the changes being made. Representation of the exams community to Government, Ofqual, JCQ and awarding bodies is paramount to ensuring changes are made effectively and accurately. Exams officers need a platform to be heard and their opinion respected. I would like to see an EO group representation made when new policies / procedures are made at national level.

Mr Dominic Peter Meason

Examination Officer

Cheltenham College

I have been a full time Examinations Officer at two independent secondary/sixth form schools (Cheltenham Ladies College 7 years, Cheltenham College 5 years)

A brief background of who you are and your present role

  • I have been a full-time Examinations Officer for 12 years working at two independent boarding schools (13-18).  Prior to this I was at University completing a degree in Business and Marketing.
  • As such, my entire working life has been within the Exams Office. Whilst my experience is in the independent sector, I still share the same concerns as my colleagues at schools around the country with regards to our roles, changes in qualifications, workload and the perception of our job.

An outline of the experience you will bring to the post

  • Taking my post in 2004, shortly after the teacher’s workforce agreement was put in place, I am in that first group of Examinations Officers who have never taught and was employed specifically for the role.
  • As such I have worked through the numerous changes to the examination system over the years. I know the challenges for new Exams Officers as well as issues concerning those who have been in post for some time.

What your vision is for taking the EOA forward

  • I am passionate about the protection and development of what is a key (and too often underappreciated) role within schools and colleges.  The EOA is a vital tool for peer support, resources and CPD that can help Exams Officers with their role on a day-to-day basis and there is no reason why every Exam Officer in the country shouldn’t be a member.
  • I would hope to strategise a method of boosting membership numbers and as such put more weight behind future representation on behalf of members.  With a business background and an interest in strategy, change management and policy I would hope to make a genuine difference to the Exams Officer position through high level communication with key stakeholders in the exam system.
  • I would also want to represent the best interests of community at every level with regards to any changes proposed by the DfE, Ofqual, JCQ and the Awarding Bodies.
